A free Fibbage alternative: fake answers, on everyone's phone

Fibbage made the game. This is a free one in the browser, with nothing to buy, and it plays with two.

The short version

Fibbage is Jackbox Games’ bluffing game, and the best-known one there is: a strange true fact with a word blanked out, everyone writes a lie to fill the blank, and then everyone tries to spot the truth among the lies. It comes in Jackbox Party Packs, which one person buys and runs on a console or a computer for the room.

Fib Fact is the same kind of game, free in the browser. Everyone gets a trivia question almost nobody knows and writes a fake answer that sounds true. All the fakes and the real answer go up together, and everyone picks the one they think is real. Find the truth and you score; fool your friends and you score for each of them. There is nothing to buy, the host’s phone is enough to run it, and bots make it a real game with two.

How a question goes

  1. Write. The question shows on every phone, something like “What color is a polar bear’s skin?” Everyone writes a fake answer. If yours is already taken, by the real answer or by another player, you write another.
  2. Pick. Every fake and the truth go up together, shuffled. You never see your own fib on the list. Pick the one you think is true.
  3. Reveal. The answers come up one at a time: who fell for each fib, then whose fib it was. The truth comes last. With a TV, it all plays out on the big screen.

Round two is worth double and the last question triple, so the lead can change right at the end. The player who fooled the most people takes Best liar.

When Fibbage is still the right pick

  • You already own the pack. Then you have the original, and a lot of other games with it.
  • Your stream’s audience should play along without taking a seat. Fibbage has an audience mode: up to 10,000 viewers guess the truth and vote on lies, with a score of their own. On Fib Fact, chat can join the room and play, and the TV view is built to be watched, but there is no watch-and-vote audience yet. Streaming Join Me Games.
  • You want questions written for lying about, and its extra modes. Fibbage’s questions are written for the game: an odd true fact with one word blanked out, chosen because it is fun to fib about. It adds video questions, a Final Fibbage where one lie has to fit two questions at once, “Enough About You” with questions about the players themselves, and in Fibbage 3 a Lie for Me button for when you are stuck. Fib Fact’s questions come from the site’s trivia packs, and it has none of those modes yet.

When Fib Fact is the right pick

  • Nobody owns a pack, or a console. Open a room on a phone, share the code, play.
  • You are two, or one. Bots fill the table and write fakes of their own, and the game adds a few more, so there is always something to fall for.
  • The kids are playing. The questions are family-safe, a word filter keeps swearing off the board, and the host can hide anything it misses.
  • There is no shared screen. Every phone shows the whole game. When there is a screen, any browser on it will do.
  • More than eight of you want to play. Fibbage seats eight and everyone else joins its audience. Here everyone in the room when the host starts writes fibs and picks. There is no set limit; the phones talk to the host’s, so a very big room leans on the host’s connection.
  • You want something else afterwards. The room stays open; the host picks another game and nobody rejoins.

Questions

Is there a free Fibbage alternative?
Fib Fact on Join Me Games is free: a trivia question nobody knows, everyone writes a fake answer on their own phone, then everyone hunts for the real one. Nothing to buy or install, no account for anyone, and it runs in any browser.
How many people do you need?
One or more, with no set limit: everyone in the room when the host starts plays, where Fibbage seats eight. Bots fill the seats up to five, and they write fakes and pick answers like anyone else, so two people have a real game and one person can play against the bots. The game also adds a few fakes of its own, so even a small table has plenty to fall for.
Do we need a TV?
No. Every phone shows the question, the answers and the reveal, so it works round a table or on a call. If there is a TV, any browser on it shows the board and plays out the reveal, one answer at a time, with the room’s sound.
Can we write our own questions?
Not yet. The questions come from ten packs of trivia on the site, picked so that most tables will not know the answer, and the host can mix any of the packs.
Is it family-friendly?
Every question is family-safe. A word filter stops swearing reaching the board, and the host can hide any answer the filter misses before anyone picks.
Is this made by Jackbox Games?
No. Fibbage, Jackbox and The Jackbox Party Pack are trademarks of Jackbox Games, Inc. Join Me Games is an independent site by Be Apped, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Jackbox Games.
