A free Skribbl alternative for friends: draw and guess on your phones

Skribbl is the drawing game everyone knows. This is the same race for a room of your own friends, with nothing to install.

The short version

Skribbl.io is the best-known draw-and-guess game online: one player draws a word, everyone else types guesses in the chat, and the faster you get it the more you score. It is free, it runs in the browser, and you can play with strangers in a public room or make a private one for friends.

Sketch Sprint is the same race, made for your own friends on your own phones. The drawing appears on every phone as it is drawn, wrong guesses pop up for the room to laugh at instead of scrolling past in a chat, and the room is only ever people with your code. Bots fill empty seats, so it plays with two, and the room moves on to the site’s other games when you are done.

How a turn goes

  1. Pick. The drawer is shown three words, easy, medium and hard, and picks one. Nobody else sees it.
  2. Draw. The drawer draws on their phone. Everyone else watches it appear on their own phone, with blanks for the word, and types guesses. A guess that is nearly right tells only you “So close!”.
  3. Score. The sooner you get it, the more you score, and the first to get it scores a little more. The drawer scores when people get it, so it pays to draw clearly. Then the pen moves on.

When Skribbl is still the right pick

  • You want to play with strangers. Skribbl has public rooms to drop into any time. Sketch Sprint is only ever your own friends.
  • You want your own words. Skribbl lets a room add custom words, or play only those. Sketch Sprint uses its own list.
  • You are playing in another language. Skribbl has word lists in many languages. Sketch Sprint is in English.
  • You want to tune every setting. Skribbl’s rooms set the rounds, the draw time, the hints and the mode.

When Sketch Sprint is the right pick

  • It is your own friends, on your own phones. Share a code; nobody you do not know can get in.
  • You are two, or one. Bots draw and guess, so a small group still has a game.
  • The kids are playing. Every game on the site is family-friendly, the words are fine for any table, and there are no strangers.
  • There is a TV. Any browser on it shows the drawing large and the guesses popping up, for the whole room to watch.
  • You want something else afterwards. The room stays open; the host picks another game and nobody rejoins.

Questions

Is there a free Skribbl alternative for playing with friends?
Sketch Sprint on Join Me Games is free: one of you draws a word on your phone, everyone else watches it appear on theirs and races to type it. Nothing to install, and it runs in any browser.
How many people do you need?
Two or more, with no set limit: everyone in the room when the host starts plays. Bots fill the seats up to three; they draw and they guess, so two people have a real game and one person can try it alone.
Can strangers join?
No. There are no public rooms: a room is only open to people who have its code, so it is always your own friends.
Do we need a TV?
No. Every phone shows the drawing as it is drawn, the blanks and the clock. If there is a TV, any browser on it shows the drawing large and the room’s guesses popping up.
Can we use our own words?
Not yet. The words come from a list of 500+ things anyone can draw badly and anyone can name, in three levels, fine for any table.
Is this made by Skribbl?
No. Skribbl.io is a trademark of its owner. Join Me Games is an independent site by Be Apped, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Skribbl.io.
