A free Jackbox alternative you play on your phones

Games for the whole room, each on their own phone, with nothing to buy and nothing to install.

The short version

If you like the Jackbox way of playing, everyone on their own phone, but you do not want to buy a party pack or gather around one person’s console, this is that. Join Me Games runs in the browser. The host opens a room, shares a code or a QR code, and every phone is in. It is free, there is no app to install, and players never need an account (hosting a game still in beta takes a free sign-in). From opening the site to the first round is under a minute.

You do not need a TV either. Every phone shows the game. In the race games your own board fills your phone, and a strip of miniatures shows every other player’s board with their score and the gap to the next player, so you can see who is winning and who is about to. If there is a TV in the room, it shows the game large; if there is not, nobody misses anything.

The games started with what plays best with your thumbs: arcade and puzzle games with quick rounds, live scores and, mostly, everyone acting at once, and no reading or typing to slow a mixed group down. The kinds Jackbox is known for are arriving the same way, free and without the pack: word & party, drawing, trivia, writing & bluffing and card games games are here, and strategy & adventure games are on the way.

Weighing more than one option? Every free game like Jackbox, compared. Coming from AirConsole? That comparison is its own page. Not all in one room? Playing remotely.

Why people pick Join Me Games

  • Every game, three ways to play. As a party in one room, with friends from anywhere, or solo with bots. Nothing here waits for three people and a television before it will start.
  • Nothing to buy and nothing to own. Anyone can host from their phone. There is no one person whose console the party depends on, and no pack to buy before the first round.
  • Faster to start. No launching a game on a TV and reading a code off it. Share a link or a QR code, tap it, play. The host picks the game for everyone.
  • The room stays open between games. The host picks the next game and every phone follows. Nobody backs out to a menu, nobody re-enters a code, and a TV showing the group follows too.
  • You see everyone, on your own phone. In the race games, every player’s board in miniature, scores and gaps included. Compete across a table, across a call, or across the country.
  • Games you play with your thumbs. Quick rounds, live scores, mostly everyone acting at once, and no reading or typing in the arcade and puzzle games. Good for mixed-language groups, for children, and for anyone who does not want to be funny on demand, and Fib Fact for the nights you want to write a lie.
  • Bots fill the empty seats. A game that is best with four still plays with two, so the site is useful on a Tuesday and not only at a party.
  • Any screen is the TV. A laptop, a projector, a hotel television with a browser: open the TV page and every board is up. Or skip it, and everyone plays on their own phone.
  • An app if you want one. Add it to your home screen and it opens full screen with its own icon, the same as any app, with no store in between.

From the site to the first round in under a minute

  1. The host opens Join Me Games and presses Play. They are in as a guest with a short room code. Ten seconds.
  2. Friends open the invite link, scan the QR code, or type the code on their own phones. Twenty seconds for a table of six.
  3. The host picks a game and presses Play. Every phone starts the same round together; in the race games, each with the others’ boards in miniature along the edge.

Put it on a TV if you like: open the TV page on any screen and it follows the group from game to game.

Questions

Is it really free?
Yes. Every game on Join Me Games is free to play, supported by ads. A Party Pass removes the ads for you and everyone you host and reserves a custom room code of your own, but nobody needs one to play.
Do we need to download anything?
No. The host opens the site in a browser and hosts a room. Friends open the invite link, scan the QR code, or type the short code on their own phones. If you like, you can add the site to your home screen and it runs as an app, but nobody has to.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. It runs in Safari and Chrome on any recent phone, and on a laptop or tablet too. Everyone in the group can be on a different kind of device.
How do we see each other if there is no TV?
Every phone shows the game. In the race games your own board fills your phone and a strip of miniatures shows every other player’s board with their score and how far ahead or behind they are; in the rest, everyone shares the same board. A TV is optional: any screen with a browser can show the game large.
Can we switch games without starting over?
Yes. The room stays open between games. The host picks the next one and every phone in the group follows, with nobody re-entering a code. A TV showing the group follows too.
How many people can play?
There is no hard limit. Rooms feel best with two to eight players; the phones talk to each other directly, so a very large room depends on the host’s connection. Each game says how many it is best with, and bots can fill empty seats in every game.
Can we play remotely, over Discord or Zoom?
Yes. Everyone joins the same room from wherever they are, each on their own phone, and sees the others’ boards in miniature. If you want a shared view, the host opens the TV page and shares that screen on the call.
Does everyone need to read and type?
Not for the arcade and puzzle games: they are played with thumbs, so a mixed-language group or a child who reads slowly is at no disadvantage. Codewords, Crazy Eights, Doodle Roar, Fib Fact, Hearts, Knockout Trivia, Sketch Sprint, Snatch Solitaire, Solitaire and Zinger have words in them and want readers.
