Knockout Trivia Strategy: How to Win

Knockout Trivia has no points, only places. Here is how to keep yours: answer right, answer fast, hold your dodges, and know when the bench is your best way back in.

The one thing that matters most

Being right beats being fast. The ring sorts right answers first and only then by speed, so a right answer at 14 seconds still sits above a wrong one at 1 second.

But speed still matters, more than most players think. When someone in the ring is wrong and nobody on the bench was right, the bottom two of the ring fight. If only one boxer was wrong, the other boxer in that duel is the slowest right answer. You can be right and still end up in a duel because you were slow.

So the goal on every question is right first, then fast. Read the question, find the answer, and tap the moment you are sure. Do not sit on an answer you already know.

Speed or accuracy: when to tap

Your first tap is your answer, so there are no second thoughts. A few rules of thumb:

  • If you know it, tap at once. Every second you wait lets someone pass you in the order.
  • If you are torn between two answers, take a few seconds. A wrong answer drops you below every right one, which costs far more than a slow right answer does.
  • If you have no idea, still answer before the clock runs out. No answer sorts below every wrong answer, and it resets your streak the same as a wrong one.
  • Bots answer between about 2 and 8.5 seconds in. A right answer in under 2 seconds puts you above every bot that was also right.

Staying out of the bottom of the ring

Duels only happen when someone in the ring is wrong. The safest place is near the top, and the way there is a run of fast right answers.

If the bench has someone who keeps getting questions right, the bottom of the ring is in danger. Redemption picks the bottom of the ring, so if you are wrong and the bench is right, you are the one who fights.

Winning duels

A duel is a mini game, 20 seconds of one of our arcade or puzzle games, or a quick chance game. You cannot pick the game, but you can be ready for it.

  • Play the arcade and puzzle games on the site on their own. Ten minutes with each one is worth more than any trick, because a duel gives you no time to learn the controls.
  • Use the versus screen and the 3-second countdown to think about the game drawn. Know what wins it before it starts.
  • Start moving at once. Twenty seconds is short, and a slow start is hard to make up.
  • Do not give up on a duel that looks lost. Leaving a duel loses it, while staying in can still win it.
  • Chance games such as High Roll and Rock Paper Scissors are mostly luck. Play them quickly and move on.
  • A level duel goes to whoever did better on the question that caused it. Right and fast on the question is your tiebreak, even in a luck game.

Dodges and streaks

Three right answers in a row earn a dodge, and a dodge slips the punch when you lose a duel. Dodges are the closest thing the game has to a life bar.

Your streak and your dodges show only on your phone. Nobody else knows you are holding one until it saves you. Use that: a player sitting at the bottom of the ring with two dodges is far safer than they look.

A wrong answer resets your streak to zero but keeps the dodges you already have. So a streak of two is worth protecting. If you are sitting on two, take an extra second to be sure on the next question.

Dodges trade one for one. If you both hold one, they cancel out. Assume the other boxer might have one too, and never treat a dodge as a free pass.

Bonus dice

A side rolls when everyone on it got the question right and there are at least two of them. A roll can pay streak points or, on a 6, a dodge. Your right answer is a chance at a roll for everyone on your side, you included.

The bench and redemption

Going to the bench is not the end. You still answer every question, and your streak still counts toward dodges.

Your way back is redemption. When someone in the ring is wrong, the fastest right answer on the bench fights the bottom of the ring for their place. So on the bench, speed matters more than ever: only the fastest right answer gets the fight.

Build your dodges while you wait. A redemption duel you lose while holding a dodge can still send the other boxer down, and you take the ring.

The final bell and the title fight

After the final bell the bench is done, and every question ends in a duel between the bottom two of the ring, even if both were right. From here, speed is everything. The fastest right answer is safe that question.

Your dodges matter most now. Every question is a duel, so a dodge you still hold can be the one that keeps you in.

If you are alone in the ring when the bell rings, you may still face a title fight. The fastest right answer on the bench gets one shot at you. If the last question already ended in a duel, there is no title fight.

Picking packs your table knows

The host picks the packs, and the packs shape the game. A pack nobody knows turns every question into a coin flip and every round into a duel.

  • Pick packs where most of the table is strong. More right answers means fewer duels and more bonus rolls.
  • For a mixed table, General or Everything keeps it fair.
  • With kids at the table, the Kids pack lets everyone answer.
  • Each bot shows the subject it knows well and the one it knows badly. Playing against bots, pick packs on their weak subjects.

Common mistakes

  • Waiting to tap an answer you already know.
  • Letting the clock run out. No answer is worse than a wrong one.
  • Guessing fast on a question you could have worked out in five seconds.
  • Never practicing the mini games, then losing a duel to the controls.
  • Giving up on the bench. It is the way back in.

Playing with a group or with kids

Put the game on a TV with joinme.games/watch so everyone sees the question large and watches the duels together. Duels are the best part to watch.

With kids, use the Kids pack and chance game duels. Chance games are quick and fair to any age, since luck decides most of them.

If one player knows everything, add arcade duels. A quick hand in a duel can beat a big brain.

Quick tips

  • Right first, then fast.
  • Always answer before the clock runs out.
  • Protect a streak of two.
  • Practice the mini games before game night.
  • On the bench, be the fastest right answer.
  • Build dodges before the final bell. They play by themselves when you lose a duel.

Questions

How do you win at Knockout Trivia?
Answer right, then answer fast, so you stay near the top of the ring and out of duels. Build streaks for dodges, practice the mini games for the duels you do fight, and be the last boxer in the ring after the final bell.
Is it better to answer fast or right in Knockout Trivia?
Right. The ring sorts every right answer above every wrong one, then by speed. But if you are right and slow, you can still be pulled into a duel, so tap the moment you are sure.
How do you get back in the ring from the bench?
Be the fastest right answer on the bench on a question where someone in the ring is wrong. You then fight the bottom of the ring, and if you win, you swap places.
What are good tips for trivia night?
Pick subjects your group knows, answer what you know at once, take a moment on the ones you can work out, and never leave a question blank. In Knockout Trivia, a blank answer counts below a wrong one.
Can you beat the bots in Knockout Trivia?
Yes. Bots answer between about 2 and 8.5 seconds in, so a fast right answer beats them. Each bot shows its weak subject, so pick packs on it.
